Rubio Monocoat Tannin Primer is a preventive treatment for untreated interior wood where tannin staining may be a concern.
Designed for tannin-rich timber such as oak, chestnut, beech and ash, it helps reduce the risk of visible tannin marks appearing after finishing - a practical choice for interior floors, furniture, worktops and other timber surfaces before applying a Rubio Monocoat finishing oil.
Tannin Primer also supports improved adhesion and a more consistent finish, helping the oil perform evenly across the surface. Once applied and fully dry, the raised fibres can be lightly knocked back before finishing with the chosen Rubio Monocoat oil.
Suitable for internal use only, Tannin Primer is ideal for projects where a cleaner, more reliable finish is required on tannic wood species.
Application
Sand the wooden surface until it is completely smooth and free from any previous finishes. Remove all dust thoroughly with a vacuum.
Apply Tannin Primer using a brush, roller or sprayer, then even it out with a cloth, working in the direction of the wood grain to avoid pooling.
Allow the surface to dry fully. If any raised fibres appear, lightly smooth the surface with a beige scrub pad until even.
Remove any remaining dust, then apply your desired Rubio Monocoat finishing oil.
